Workshops entitled ‘Preparing People For Integral Mission Towards Wholistic Development’ were held in six congregations between July and September. Veritas has been working with these congregations for a number of years, assisting them both with Bible and livelihood training. The workshops encouraged reflection on the above theme and concluded with practical group discussions on how the church’s ministry can become more holistic in their rural context. Integral mission originates with God’s redemptive purposes, it is mindful of mankind’s wholistic nature (body, soul and spirit) and it is exemplified in Christ’s ministry and mission. It aims to make whole the relationships broken by sin: God’s relationship with us, within ourselves (heart, mind and will – Ps. 86:11), between one another and between us and the rest of creation. It aims for shalom, wholeness in all of life through the proclamation of the gospel by the community of God’s people who have been saved to express their faith in loving service of others (Eph 2:10; 1 Pet. 2:12; 2 Pet. 1:8).
