Veritas College ZambiaZambia attained its political independence from Britain on 24 October 1964. It is located in Central Southern Africa and landlocked by eight neighbouring states, namely Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. The population of Zambia is about 11 million and has been growing at an average rate of about 3% per annum. Of this population, about 47% are children below the age of 15 years.
Veritas College training was started from Malawi by Martin Etter in 2000. Two years later Martin appointed two Zambians to help run the work. Currently Frederick Bwalya is the Veritas National Coordinator working in close conjunction with Martin. Veritas College Zambia was estabished as an organisation in May 2007.
Most of the training takes place in churches in the capital Lusaka, the town of Chirundu on the border with Zimbabwe, Kasama and surrounding villages, and Chipata the capital of the eastern province and the headquarters of the Islamic movement in Zambia. Some training also takes place in Chongwe and Kafue, towns about 50 km east and south of Lusaka respectively. Veritas College Zambia currently has 450 men and women in training for Module 1 and 350 at various stages of training in the other modules. One hundred pastors have been trained as facilitators and approximately 75% of them are training people in their congregations.

Veritas College Zambia is involved in training in the United Church of Zambia (UCZ), the Reformed Church in Zambia, the Baptist Church, the Pentecostal Assemblies of God, the Pentecostal Holiness church and numerous independent churches. Veritas is also working with some Bible Colleges such as The Hope College Zambia, which uses the Veritas materials for hermeneutics as part of a two year diploma course. Hope College has also become a centre for the training of facilitators. The Pentecostal Holiness College uses the Veritas material for its certificate classes. About three quarters of the training is in English while the rest takes place in Chichewa and French. Zambia has a good number of French speaking churches. Three pastors train participants using the French translation of the Veritas materials. Currently work is being done on a Bemba translation to cater for about 60% of the population which either speaks or understands Bemba.
Veritas provides
In a small way Veritas has also started to empower rural pastors and leaders in the area of food security. In 2006 an agricultural expert trained some 400 pastors and church leaders who have this season implemented the farming techniques they learned.
There is a huge hunger for leadership training in our country particularly in the area of Bible interpretation.
We thank God for what He is doing in Zambia through Veritas College.
