During the last 40 years Uganda has experienced a tremendous revival through which thousands have turned to Christ for salvation. This has resulted in a wave of church planting. However for every new church, a well-equipped leader is needed to raise these new babes in Christ to maturity in their faith.

Though Uganda has many Bible schools and theological colleges, these have not been able to meet the church’s rapidly growing demand for well-equipped leaders. There are not enough of them and it would be too expensive to establish and maintain them. Even if there were sufficient training institutions, it would cost the thousands of new church leaders too much to attend them.

Veritas offers a flexible, economically viable and multipliable training method that equips leaders locally not only to become better trained themselves, but also to pass this training on to others (2Tim 2:2). Through Veritas the rapidly expanding church in Uganda is able to  to train well equipped leaders at a pace that matches the growth of the church.

In many cases a pastor will own a Bible and very few other books, if any. In this situation it is a privilege to raise up leaders ‘who handle the word of truth correctly’.

In the Veritas training the Bible is the most important educational resource. Four modules are used to equip church leaders to understand, apply and communicate the biblical message (exegesis, hermeneutics and homiletics).

In Uganda the training typically takes place over a period of 2 years. During this time Veritas staff members work together with small groups of local church leaders and train them in eight week-long workshops. After every 2 workshops the participants have five months to implement what they have learned by training other leaders in their own churches. During this time Veritas staff members visit their churches to provide further ‘on the job’ training and encouragement.

Over the last few years Veritas Uganda has worked together with hundreds of church leaders from different denominations and church groups and has equipped them with the skills to discover the biblical message for themselves and to apply it in their own specific context.

Veritas Uganda has started an extensive project to translate all four modules into the four 'main' local languages. The translation for the largest language group Luganda has been completed and the first two modules have been translated into the other main languages.

Veritas College is active in church leadership development in all parts of Uganda. As church leaders interpret and apply the Bible to their local context it has an influence in their community in all spheres of life.

The training approach and strategy that Veritas follows is designed to provide the maximum training at the lowest possible cost. However, because most of the participants are so extremely poor, the ministry relies on the generosity of believers from various parts of the world. In addition, the participants contribute sacrificially bypaying their own transport, making a contribution for the workbooks and being responsible for making facilities available and implementing it in their own churches.
